Legendary Run Golf Course lives up to its name in Cincinnati
CINCINNATI -- Legendary Run Golf Course delivers a great 18-hole round on one of the best public tracks in southwest Ohio.
And it throws a little bonus golf in, too. There's a 19th hole, a 163-yard par 3 over a pond that is one of the most scenic shots on the course. Marty Meeker, a member from nearby Amelia, said members often play the game "greenies" on the hole to settle bets.
Legendary Run was designed by Arthur Hills as private club, opening in 2000 as the centerpiece of a large subdivision. Houses line the front nine before the 6,920-yard golf course disappears into the wilderness on the back. Creeks cross the fairways at the par-5 third, the par-3 fourth and the par-4 fifth.
The back nine tightens up with trees and a bit more elevation change. Water again takes center stage at the finish. The pond at the tiny par-3 16th gobbles up more balls than the yardage implies. The most heroic swing comes at No. 17 on the approach over a pond.
"It is not tight enough where you worry about spraying the ball," Meeker said of the layout. "You have to play the course through the air. You can't roll it up."
