Great value - Great condition
This course is in exceptional shape. That in vested in Bermuda fairways and has made all the difference in the world. Greens are smooth and roll great. Great staff and cold refreshments. Highly recommended.
Great
This course is absolutely beautiful, the greens were in perfect condition, bunkers were great, the layout was awesome, and the tee boxes were very well maintained (one of the most underrated parts of a nice golf course).
This is definitely the nicest course in southern Ohio and I can't wait to go back there
Excellent Condition
I played this course a lot growing up and recently went back for the first time in a few years and I think it's in the best shape I ever remember it being in. Fun place to play.
Going down hill
Rude people that think they run Augusta members do not like outsiders
Slow!
I don't mind groups of 5 if they play ready golf and have a little bit of skill but there were at least 2 groups of 5 hackers slowing down the course. Why let that happen on a weekend? It took 5 hours to play 18 behind one of these 5somes.
Best course in tri state area
Great course in excellent shape. Greens were above average but had just been plugged about 1 week earlier. Awesome Donald Ross layout..
Ran into league!
Had 2:30 tee time. Saw group of six playing #7 when we were playing #1. Got around front 9 quickly but had groups jumping on #10 who hadn't played front 9. On #13 there were three groups. They said they were in a league. Very slow after that. Why would you sell a tee time knowing a league would be shotgunning in the middle of your round! No starter or ranger.
Awesome as always
Haven't played here SD once my Junior days. Course is in better shape, and has stood up all these years. Wish I lived closer to play it everyday.
First time playing here, course has great character
Sunday tee time 1 PM, we arrived early, and the course professional/starter allowed us to take off right away ahead of a large group. This is an old, seasoned golf course. Beautiful trees, generous fairways, excellent bent greens, and just great character. My sons and I noticed so many great memorials around the course, lots of benches and lots of trees with memorials. Very well done. What was most surprising with the excellent pace of play; there is not thick brush and only one water hole, so even on a crowded day, we completed 18 holes in 3-1/2 hours. We were treated exceptionally well by the staff. We drove an hour to play there, we will come back.
Best Course in the Area
Had another great round at the elks! It's a beautifully designed course with a ton of character! I'd play there everyday if I could
Good bang for your buck
Great greens great value would definitely go back because where else can you play a Donald Ross designed golf course for this price
a golf course with lots of character.
This course is a great mix of hills and trees. It's challenging but not overly difficult. Great layout over all. Staff is helpful and food is very good for the price. Will go again!
Challenging short course, very well maintained
It's only 6700 from the tips but it has lots of bite. The par 3's are lengthy and some of the 4's are long. Greens were a little slow and if you putted on the practice green and expected the same on the course you were fooled. Much slower on the course than the practice green. Had 3 inches of rain the day before but drained very well. I love the layout, but you will run into the occasional 5 some. A must play course and the pro Nathan is a good guy.
Best course in southern Ohio
Unless you plan on going to one of the big cities you won't find a better golf course in the southern Ohio area around Portsmouth. The course is always well maintained and the speed of play was great. Greens were in great condition. When I was going into the clubhouse one of the golfers told me there had been a brown bear sighting on the course!
Great course to play for anybody
First time playing at Portsmouth Elks but not the last. We had a foursome and we all enjoyed the course very much. Was a nice layout and in good condition. We will be returning for sure as it was worth our one hour drive.
Wonderful Day
The course has several challenges and is very Beautiful, each hole has a different task.
WELL MAINTAINED, DIFFICULT, COURSE. GREAT DESIGN.
YOU CAN TELL DRIVING UP TO THE CLUB HOUSE THIS IS A VERY WELL MAINTAINED COURSE. GREENS ARE IN GREAT CONDITION FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. VERY FRIENDLY STAFF AND GOOD FOOD AND DRINKS. LONGER COURSE THAN WE USUALLY PLAY BUT STILL A GREAT TIME.
A challenging, enjoyable round of golf. One of the best courses in the area.
The course was in excellent condition even following a strong thunderstorm shortly before our arrival. The greens were a little soft and slow due to the rainstorm, but in great condition otherwise. Pace of play was good until the last four holes when we got behind a very slow foursome. The staff was very friendly upon arrival. The $18 weekend Hot Deal was a great deal. Would recommend this course to all.
Beautiful Donald Ross designed course.
The Elks is a fun course to play. Beautiful tree lined fairways and nice greens. Not a lot of trouble to get into if you hit a straight ball. Friendly staff too!
