Go back to school at Kent State with a round on the Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna
Windmill Lakes Golf Club, located six miles from Kent State University's campus, won't wow golfers with scenic signature holes. Instead, it grinds their game into submission, especially testing the long game. It's definitely a big boy golf course. And you might even run into 2003 Open Champion Ben Curtis, who played at Kent State, on the random chance he's in town.

Established in 1926, Hawthorne Valley Golf Club is a living, breathing museum of golf southeast of Cleveland. If he were alive today, golf's grandmaster Donald Ross would probably be proud at how well his 6,533-yard course has survived the passage of time. The once-private Hawthorne Valley turned public in 2010, inviting a whole new generation of players to cherish its classic design.

Elevated tees and greens highlight Manakiki Golf Course, a Donald Ross design 17 miles northeast of downtown Cleveland. Shot for shot, the 6,641-yard course might be just as good as Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, widely considered the gem of the eight courses owned and operated by the Cleveland Metroparks. It's a timeless treasure well worth the pint-sized greens fees the Metroparks charges to play.
